Best Podcasts to Understand Menopause and Perimenopause

It was a Wednesday morning last year that I just happened to listen to one of Steven Bartlett’s new podcasts from his amazing Diary of a CEO series, where I was introduced to the word and meaning of perimenopause.
I knew about menopause…hot flashes, mood swings and irregular periods, right? Wrong…there was so much more, and most of these things are also present in perimenopause, the phase before your periods stop.
In fact, you’re not actually in menopause until your period has stopped for over a year, and that perimenopause can start from your 30’s!
As I spoke about this to my female friends, I realised there was so much we didn’t know. And surprise, surprise the medical community doesn’t know or fund either.
So here I share the 5 best podcasts on the subject that you can add to your playlist and learn the science, the remedies and what to ask for when you see your gynaecologist next time.
Table of Contents
ToggleThe No.1 Menopause Doctor: They’re Lying To You About Menopause! Mary Claire Haver
Dr Mary Claire Haver is a specialist menopause doctor whose mission is to help women through menopause with proper nutritional information.
This podcast touches on how women are treated in the medical system, the physical effects menopause has on women and how you can get better sleep and what men can do to help us!
It already has over 4 million views and is a great place to start understanding the condition. Not too science-y, but she shares information that is scientifically-backed and stories from her own practice.
The Menopause Doctor: This Diet Delays Menopause! Menopause Is Shrinking Your Brain! Dr Lisa Mosconi
Another DOAC podcast, but this time with Dr Lisa Mosconi, who is a neuroscientist who focuses on women’s health.
In this chat, she covers how menopause affects the brain, signs and symptoms to look out for, and some simple things you can start to do to help lessen your symptoms.
I loved this talk as I love anything about the brain, and here she shows scans and talks about the science behind how the hormone fluctuations affect us.
Menstruation, Menopause, and Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women- Dr Peter Attia
This is a great talk from a Canadian-American author, physician, and researcher known for his work in longevity medicine.
This is a 20+ min clip from the Andrew Huberman podcast, where Dr Peter talks about how the medical profession let women down and where the negative connotations around Hormone-Replacement Therapy (HRT) came from.
I found this fascinating as he clearly explains why the health industry got HRT wrong and how it can help. It de-mystifies a lot of things.
The Second Coming of Halle Berry – What Now? with Trevor Noah Podcast
A friend of mine told me about this podcast with Halle Berry talking with Trevor Noah and warned me it is graphic!
Halle Berry tells a personal story of how perimenopause affected her and goes on to talk about why she founded her health company, Re-Spin, and the design behind her products. I thought it would be a bit corny, but I was so wrong! I have a new love for this woman!
Lots of great advice (get your bone broth in ladies!) and she explains how her products can help you.
Oprah and Dr. Sharon Malone on Everything You Need to Know About Menopause
What would any list on women’s health be without Oprah?! Well, here is a great talk with Dr. Sharon Malone, who is a menopause expert, and the Queen herself.
The conversation covers HRT, how to talk to your male partner about menopause and a conversation with Naomi Watts, who started Stripes Beauty, which provides products to women and helps take away the shame of this time as a woman.
